The people! I feel privileged to work alongside colleagues and students with such rich and diverse experiences, knowledge, and understandings.
ÂÒÂ×´óÉñ is unique, not just within Australia, but globally. To have a safe space like Trinity, to create lifelong friendships, try new experiences and immerse yourself in the Melbourne cultural scene, is so special. It bridges the pathway between high school and university in such a supportive and seamless way.
Drama, of course! This subject was a place I could freely express myself, let go of inhibitions and step inside the worlds of different people. It was the one place in school that I was praised for my very loud voice…
1. The gig culture. There are more gigs per capita than any other place in the world. No matter what kind of music you enjoy, there is a music scene for everyone. There is nothing more special than live art.
2. The trams. I don’t drive and I used to live in a country where having a car was the only efficient mode of transport. In Melbourne, I can get (almost) anywhere on a tram. It feels so effortless. And it’s environmentally friendly!
3. The gardens. Stepping into Carlton Gardens or the Royal Botanical Gardens, you are transported into an oasis, right in the heart of a bustling city. I enjoy writing, reading, and dozing in the numerous green spaces that the city has to offer.
One of the most pivotal moments in my life was moving to Melbourne in February 2022. I am originally from Auckland, New Zealand. This is my first time living overseas. I was very daunted by the prospect of moving away from the community that I had spent my entire life within, but one year later, it is unfathomable how much my life has changed in expansive and positive ways. I have new friends, new interests, and a new job (here at Trinity). I have grown immensely and know more about myself. I would not trade this experience for anything.
Follow the flow of the universe. If something feels wrong or like a brick wall, listen to that. Choose a new direction, a fresh perspective or take a moment to breathe. We are all doing the best we can do – just enjoy the ride!
