More than 300 students and staff met in the Dining Hall on Saturday 27 February for the formal Commencement Dinner.

It was a splendid start to the new academic year. The Senior Student Jack Dawson spoke from the heart about what College life means to him, and the Warden, Professor Ken Hinchcliff gave an inspiring address on his own academic and family journey from country Victoria to doctoral studies and research in the USA.

His illustrations of large animal obstetrics and work in Alaska made deep impressions. He also offered some insights into his own student days at Trinity, and emphasised how delighted he is to return as Warden.

A highlight of the Dinner each year is the announcement of the Valedictorian: a leaver of high academic standing who has led a full College life. Fraser Wallace, Science graduate and now Medical student at the University of Melbourne, was declared to be the Valedictorian of 2015 (pictured).

Fraser, a National Scholar from Western Australia, achieved outstanding grades in his Science degree, played cello in the Trinity Orchestra, is a continuing member of the Trinity Tiger Tones, was President of the Music Society and a Student Coordinator for first floor Cowan.

On his own admission he was also a dedicated but untalented 2nd XI cricketer and 2nd XVIII footballer!

Fraser was popular with his peers and a trusted and reliable friend to many.

In his whimsical and thoughtful address to the College, Fraser encouraged new and returning students to make the most of their days at Trinity. He contrasted his recent weeks in a share house with the rich community and many opportunities of the past three years, and thanked the College for the honour being Valedictorian.
